About
This module is only compatible with the OpenMV N6.
The VB1943 (RGB-NIR) and VB5943 (monochrome) are 5.1 megapixel, 2.25 µm global, and rolling shutter image sensors. They are designed for a wide spectrum of applications that require capturing color and NIR images. Operation of these sensors combines global and rolling shutter technology with an extended dynamic range.
Leveraging from preeminent 3D stacking and ST patented processes, these sensors perform outstandingly in the NIR (940 nm) and visible region. In global shutter mode, they can capture up to 100 frames per second in a 2560 x 1984 resolution format.
The VB1943 and VB5943 sensors can be used in rolling shutter mode, taking advantage of low dark noise capability. They can operate in an 18-bit HDR mode compressed down to 12 or 10 bits through a customizable PWL.
The RGB-NIR input image is processed by the integrated advanced ISP. It can reconstruct a full resolution NIR smart upscaled monochrome image or a 2x2 color Bayer image NIR depolluted.
For computer vision applications, acquisition can be switched to global shutter mode with an NIR light source. Switching to global shutter mode with an external NIR light source greatly reduces the system power consumption that is required to drive the illumination.
Applications
This sensor is perfect for customers who need one camera to do the job of two. The hybrid shutter lets you run global shutter at 100 FPS to freeze fast motion, then switch to rolling shutter at 50 FPS when you want the cleanest, most sensitive image, all without changing hardware. Combined with high MTF from visible through near-infrared and on-chip 18-bit HDR, it holds detail in scenes that wash out an ordinary sensor, like a loading dock doorway at noon or a road at dusk. The monochrome VB5943 gives you maximum sensitivity and resolution for machine vision, while the RGB-IR VB1943 gives you color and IR from the same array for applications that need both a human-viewable image and IR-illuminated night operation.

Actual FoV with VB5943 image sensor:
The VB1943 is the same sensor with RGB-IR instead of monochrome. Identical resolution, pixel, shutter, HDR, interface, and package. It adds on-chip RGB-IR separation and intelligent upscaling, so you get full 5MP color and full 5MP infrared out of one array without a separate IR camera. Everything in the list above carries over, so a single spec block with a chroma row that differs would cover both variants cleanly.
